LA PUNTA, San Luis (Special for Turf Diario).- The weekend’s Carreras de las Estrellas celebration lit up the racetrack in La Punta, with The Cyclone and Opi Nailstaking center stage and claiming millions of pesos in prize money.

The Cyclone justified his heavy favoritism by winn ing the Clásico Fundación Equina Argentina, a 1400-meter test for horses aged three and up, without much trouble. Meanwhile, Opi Nails also rewarded public confidence, capturing the Clásico Estrellas Provincias Argentinas – Copa Lito Bestani (L, 1200 m) for two-year-olds. Both races were open exclusively to horses registered in the series with all fees paid.

Trained by Alberto Abrales in Mendoza, The Cyclone had his moment in the spotlight when, racing for Las Monjitas, he won the Clásico Vicente L. Casares (G2) at Palermo. Now, he’s enjoying success in the provinces.

With jockey Gerardo Tempesti Villalonga aboard, the son of In the Dark and the stakes winner Pioggerella (City Banker) settled at the back of the pack entering the stretch. He then swung wide, charged past leader See the Moon(Remote) at the 300-meter marker, and held off No Lo Soñé (Touareg), who finished strongly to close the gap. Representing Stud Don Cristóbal and bred by Haras El Gusy, The Cyclone stopped the timer at 1:24.91 for the distance.

In the Clásico Provincias Argentinas, the historic series race for horses competing on interior tracks, Opi Nails bounced back after a strong second-place finish to La Alfonso (Grand Reward) in the Estrellas at Villa María with an impressive performance.

Despite a disastrous start — several runners broke awkwardly — the daughter of Remote recovered to score a clear 2 ½-length victory over William Orpen (Hit It a Bomb), completing a 1-2 finish for breeder Haras Firmamento. Jockey César Romagnoli guided the filly for Stud Los Sanjua, with preparation handled by Lucas Recabarren.
