MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay (Special for Turf Diario).- Uruguayan breeding has just welcomed a top-level addition with the arrival of Gunnevera, one of the most beloved and consistent horses of the past decade in the United States. The grade-winning colt will travel to Uruguay as soon as possible after being acquired by a local breeding syndicate. His final destination is yet to be confirmed, as the farm where he will stand in the 2025 season is still pending, but the anticipation surrounding his arrival is already considerable.

By Dialed In out of Unbridled Rage (Unbridled), Gunnevera continues the influential A.P. Indy sire line and is a maternal half-brother to Minstrel Queen (Cherokee Run), a G1-placed filly in Puerto Rico. His genetic makeup makes him a strategic option for regional breeders, offering speed, stamina, and competitive toughness. Carlos Mooreacted as agent to finalize the acquisition.

Bred in Kentucky, Gunnevera shone on the track from age two and remained at the highest level through age six, compiling an outstanding record: 21 starts, 6 wins, 5 seconds, and 3 thirds, earning a total of $5,561,800.

In his U.S. career (19 starts, 6-5-2, and $4,361,800 in earnings), he recorded major victories in the Delta Downs Jackpot Stakes (G3)Saratoga Special Stakes (G2)Fountain of Youth Stakes (G2), and Tangelo Stakes. He also competed with the best in the world: runner-up in the Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1)Travers Stakes (G1), and Woodward Stakes (G1); third in the Pegasus World Cup Invitational (G1)Florida Derby (G1), and Dubai World Cup (G1), the latter earning him $1.2 million in 2019 during his stint in the United Arab Emirates.

Beyond his achievements, Gunnevera captured the hearts of racing fans, particularly in Venezuela. Trained throughout his career by Antonio Sano, a leading figure in Venezuelan racing based in Florida, he raced under the colors of Peacock Racing Stable, owned by Salomón del Valle, a prominent name in Venezuelan racing. Gunnevera’s consistency, fighting style, and versatility made him a fan favorite.

Gunnevera entered stud in 2021 at Pleasant Acres Stallions in Florida, covering mares for a $6,000 live foal fee. His move to Uruguay represents an opportunity to strengthen local breeding with a proven racetrack performer backed by elite genetics.

While the hosting farm is yet to be announced, interest among breeders across the country is already high. One thing is clear: his name will be prominent in upcoming sales catalogs, and his offspring will have a high standard to meet.

Gunnevera, the globe-trotting warrior who earned a place among the elite, now begins a new chapter in Uruguay, ready to leave another indelible mark—this time in the breeding shed.
