Juan Carlos Bagó’s farm will experience this Tuesday a new edition of an auction that serves as a landmark every season

The Venta Selección of Haras Firmamento is a landmark event every season. The extraordinary history of Juan Carlos Bagó’s operation has made it, by its own merit, one of the most anticipated sales on the calendar—and sometimes, expectations grow even higher.
That is certainly the case for the 2026 edition, set for Tuesday beginning at 2 p.m. at the Tattersall of Hipódromo de San Isidro, where the first Argentine-bred crop of the promising Maxfield will debut in the sales ring. Considered the great new hope for the famed seagull silks, the Darley stallion is already proving himself abroad, where his first crop of 3-year-olds has enjoyed striking success.
A new stallion always generates excitement. And when, as in this case, he represents one of the most important arrivals to Argentine breeding in recent years, even more so. Organized by Antonio Bullrich SA, the sale will feature 23 offspring by Maxfield, alongside progeny by The Great Day (Harlan’s Holiday), Cityscape (Selkirk), Hi Happy (Pure Prize), Dr. Post (Quality Road), and Daniel Boone (Wild Event).
Winner of the Breeders’ Futurity (G1) at two and later successful in the Clark Stakes (G1), Maxfield also captured the Stephen Foster Stakes (G2), Alysheba Stakes (G2), Mineshaft Stakes (G3), and Matt Winn Stakes (G3), while finishing second in both the Whitney Stakes (G1) and the Woodward Stakes (G1) during a campaign in which he consistently faced top-class company and earned more than $2 million.
A grandson of Bernardini (A.P. Indy) through Velvety, a sister to G1 winner Sky Mesa (Pulpit) and G3 winner Golden Velvet (Seeking the Gold), Maxfield already has stakes winners Danon Bourbon—fifth in the Kentucky Derby (G1), beaten just three lengths—Max Ciao, and Ivy Girl from his first U.S. crop, along with several stakes-placed runners such as Englishman, recently runner-up in the Pat Day Mile Stakes (G2) on Derby Day.
“We saw they sold well at first in the United States and got excited. Then, once they reached the racetrack, the results started coming,” explained Ezequiel Valle, part of the Firmamento team, ahead of the sale. “Now comes the local stage and seeing how the market responds. We supported him heavily, he sires beautiful individuals, and we have huge expectations. Personally, I was especially attracted by his female family, from the same line that produced stallions like Mutakddim (Seeking the Gold) and Bernstein (Storm Cat) here. He could really run, I love Street Sense (Street Cry), and he checked every box for us, in addition to matching perfectly with our broodmare band. We couldn’t be more excited.”
Among the Maxfield yearlings set to go through the ring are Maxrim, second foal out of G3 winner La Remota (Remote); Max Mad, maternal half-brother to G3 winner Beatle Francés (Super Saver); Max Curioso, maternal half-brother to Peruvian stakes winner Furioso Hit (Hit It a Bomb) and standout Curioso Master (Mastercraftsman); Max Wave, second foal out of champion and G1 winner Reina de Mollendo (Mastercraftsman); Max Royal, maternal half-brother to Triple Crown winner and champion Super Nao (Super Saver) and the aforementioned Reina de Mollendo; Max Prize, maternal half-brother to Peruvian stakes winner The Best Rimout (Remote); Max Champi, maternal half-brother to G1 winner Happy Happy Day (Hi Happy); Te Adora Max, maternal half-brother to G1 winner Holy Joy (Fortify) and stakes winner Te Super Adora (Super Saver); and Max Termes, out of G2 winner Terms Holiday (Harlan’s Holiday).
Also set to pass through the ring are The Great Money (The Great Day), brother to G2 winners Master Johnny (Mastercraftsman) and The Great Cash (The Great Day); The Great Willow (The Great Day), out of G2 winner Terms Parade (Parade Marshal) and sister to G2 winner Terms Holiday; and The Great Rainbow (The Great Day), a three-quarter brother to G1 winner Halo Holiday (Harlan’s Holiday).
Once again, the Venta Selección of Haras Firmamento promises to be a major attraction, fueled by the arrival of Maxfield’s first Argentine crop and the magnetic pull that always surrounds the breeding empire built by Juan Carlos Bagó, whose fields have produced countless champions over the past decades.
