LA PLATA.- Jorge Peralta continues to cement his place as one of the leading jockeys at the city’s main racetrack. After ending Francisco Leandro’s long reign atop the jockeys’ standings last season, Peralta remains a key player in 2025, locked in a close battle with Gonzalo Borda and delivering one high-level performance after another.

This past Saturday, Peralta was once again at the center of attention, partnering with Sonreime to capture the G3 Clásico General Manuel Belgrano, giving another major win to trainer Juan Saldivia, who has made Peralta one of his go-to riders at La Plata.

Guiding the son of Orpen, Peralta edged out Lo Dejo Todo (Le Blues) by a length after a well-judged ride. Speaking to Daniel Sinegub for the track’s TV broadcast, he said: “It was a lively race, but that’s to be expected with these types of horses. Sonreime was always traveling well, and when we turned into the stretch, he changed leads and gave me a great response when I asked.”

He continued: “He ran strongly to the line. It was my first time riding him in a race, although I had worked him during the week. Juan [Saldivia] gave me all the instructions. I’m very grateful to the whole team for the opportunity.”

Peralta, currently sitting inside the top four in the national jockey standings, reflected on his career trajectory: “I’m feeling great—healthy and competitive. You just have to keep going day by day; everything comes with time. Horses and trainers shape you. I came from the provinces, where it’s not always easy to ride for top stables, especially in staying races. But little by little, I’ve been finding my place and learning—because you learn something new every day. The trainers who trust me are the ones giving me the boost I need.”

After dedicating the win to Saldivia’s team in Palermo, Peralta headed back to the jockeys’ room to prepare for the rest of the card—still very much enjoying a golden stretch that has established him among Argentina’s elite riders.
