Foto Mental captured the Clásico Joaquín V. Maqueda (G3), giving the Tres Jotas operation a third stakes victory as breeder, owner, or both combined

LA PLATA.- The entire Stud Tres Jotas team is enjoying a dream stretch, stringing together stakes victories over three consecutive days, whether as breeder, owner, or combining both roles, further reinforcing a history filled with success at Argentina’s major racetracks.

This time it was at La Plata where the stable’s traditional light blue and gray silks once again took center stage. The very same track where El Resero Con Capa (Angiolo) had captured Thursday’s Clásico Julio Corte (L), and just one day after Bailarín de Venecia (Angiolo) landed the Clásico Santiago Lawrie (G3) over the turf at Hipódromo de San Isidro.

The former was bred and races for Tres Jotas; the latter developed under the operation’s banner. And now it was Foto Mental’s turn, carrying the stable’s colors despite having been bred at Haras Los Turfistas, where the outfit manages its breeding program.

Part of the first crop of Grade 1 winner Leofric (Candy Ride), the bay filly displayed tremendous courage to wear down Victoria Bayern (Santillano) in the final strides and claim the Clásico Joaquín V. Maqueda (G3-1600m, dirt)after a thrilling battle decided by just a neck. One length farther back, Happy Star (Fortify) completed the trifecta while leaving a very favorable impression.

Franco Menéndez excelled aboard Foto Mental, while also initiating a stakes double for trainer Jonathan Fredes and conditioner Angel Piana, as later in the afternoon After Hours (Qué Vida Buena) would take the Especial Bethysmal, a race covered separately in this edition.

Foto Mental entered the Maqueda off the third victory of her career in allowance company, though she had already shown quality at stakes level, finishing third in the Clásico Santiago Luro and fourth in the Remigio González Moreno, the latter against males.

The winner is thus far the best produce out of stakes-placed Finca Narbona (Lizard Island), herself a maternal sister to Grade 2 winner Sarasota (Luhuk), who enjoyed notable success in the United States, as well as to Sarawak Top (Giant’s Causeway), dam of Grade 1 heroine Sarawak Rim (Remote).

Three days, three major celebrations, all different in nature, and the feeling that the Stud Tres Jotas machine continues operating at full speed.

Just as it has for so many years.
