The South American Organization for the Promotion of Thoroughbreds (OSAF) released on Monday the list of extra entries for the 41st edition of the Gran Premio Latinoamericano (G1), set for Saturday, October 18, at Hipódromo da Gávea in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

A total of 11 horses secured a place under consideration for the $300,000 contest, including 8 locals, 2 Peruvian-trained runners, and 1 prepared in Uruguay. As per regulations, OSAF’s Board of Directors will now review these applications to determine which will join the lineup as extra classified starters.

Among the Brazilian entries are Dream Alliance (Alpha), winner of this season’s Grande Prêmio São Paulo (G1); Ethereum (Courtier), successful in the 2024 Grande Prêmio Margarida Polak Lara (G1); Galo White (Goldikovic), whose victories include the Grande Prêmio Copa dos Campeões (G2); Mc Arrocha (Arrocha), this year’s Grande Prêmio Buarque de Macedo (G3) winner; Olympic Orkut (Verrazano), who captured the Clássico Itajara (L) and is a multiple G1-placed runner; as well as conditional winners Seiquevouteamar (Verrazano) and Treasure Cartier (Camelot Kitten). Also listed is Vitruvian (Hofburg), victor of the 2024 Grande Prêmio João Adhemar de Almeida Prado (G1).

Peru’s two possible representatives are the accomplished Don Feres (Singe the Turf), currently in Argentina preparing for either the Clásico Potrillón or Clásico Engrillado, and who was runner-up in the 2023 Latinoamericano and third in the last Gran Premio Carlos Pellegrini (G1), both at San Isidro; and King Mo (Vancouver), a US-bred winner of 10 of 12 starts at Monterrico, including the Clásico Santorín (G3), though his career has been marked by several injury-related breaks.

Finally, In-Verso (War Secretary), Brazilian-bred and trained by Antonio Cintra, was entered following his win this season in Maroñas’ Clásico Manuel Quintela (G3).

Member racetracks must confirm their nominated runners by September 18, with the final list of extra classified starters to be announced the week of September 22. The total entry cost for extra classified runners is set at US$25,000.
