Little by little, the Gran Premio Latinoamericano (G1) 2026 is warming up. Although there are still two months to go before many of the best South American specimens face off on the grass of Monterrico, in Lima, Peru, the news is becoming more frequent.

Last week, the locals found their first two representatives after the Clásico Baldomero Aspillaga (G3), where the Argentine Puppi's Husband (Fortify) defeated the Chilean champion Khamal (Mendelssohn), taking the available spots from the qualifier.

Now it has been revealed that Argentina nominated Thor Medina, the colt who finished second to Full Keynote (Full Mast) in the Gran Premio Martínez de Hoz, and who gained access to that privilege after the positive test of the bay from Gran Muñeca in the first G1 of the national season.

A big move by the Jockey Club Argentino by betting on the son of Mootasadir, who that afternoon had his first graded skirmish after a couple of consecutive conditional wins and having lost a conditional race. In the selection, he stood ahead of other names with much more experience such as Chelato (Cosmic Trigger) or The Gladiator's Hat(Hat Ninja), winner of the Dardo Rocha (G1) and runner-up to Obataye (Courtier) in the Pellegrini (G1), who finished fourth as the favorite in the Martínez de Hoz.

The blue and white delegation will be completed once Palermo, which this Tuesday announced that its reference race will be the Clásico Otoño (G2) on Saturday, March 7, on the dirt...

On the other hand, the Organización Sudamericana de Fomento del SPC (OSAF), which launches the Latinoamericano every season, reported that the list of extra-classified entries for the 42nd edition of the continental clash is ready.

In total, 8 were nominated, all Peruvian representatives and 6 of them from Stud Jet Set, the same colors defended by the aforementioned Puppi's Husband: the mare Boudica (The Lieutenant), Manyuz (Run Away and Hide) —who won the race in 2024, but on the local dirt—, Padre Roberto (Hurricane Cat), Radoslav (Singe the Turf), Rodrigo(Bay of Plenty), and Super Corinto (Super Saver), who finished second to the Chilean O'Connor (Boboman) when the race was held at Hipódromo Chile in 2022.

In addition, Happy Man (Newfoundland) —who competed in Gávea when the Latino was run last year— for Stud Doña Licha, and Suntory (Bourbon Resolution), with the silks of Stud El Herraje, were entered, prepared by Rafael Herrera and Augusto Olivares, respectively.

According to the rules established by the Gran Premio Latinoamericano, the OSAF Board of Directors will evaluate the applications to decide which specimens will be selected as extra-classified, the total cost of which is 25,000 dollars.

March 16 is the deadline for the confirmation of the horses nominated by the member racetracks, so the names of the extra-classified runners will be announced on the 20th of next month. The Latinoamericano, which on this occasion will be sponsored by Cygames Inc., a Japanese video game company, will have a distance of 2000 meters and will distribute 300,000 dollars in purses.
