LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (Special for Turf Diario).- Undisputed queen of the 2024 season and still holding the Horse of the Year title, Thorpedo Anna returns to action next Saturday at Churchill Downs, where she will lead a small but tough field of five in the Fasig-Tipton Fleur de Lis Stakes (G2). With $500,000 in purse and a guaranteed berth to the Longines Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1), this race marks the next step for the fantastic daughter of Fast Anna, aiming to rebound after an unexpected defeat in the La Troienne Stakes (G1) last May on the same track.

Trained by Kenny McPeek and ridden by Brian Hernandez Jr., the Brookdale Racing, Mark Edwards, Judy Hicks, and Magdalena Racing runner will break from gate three in the seventh race of a day packed with excitement at Churchill Downs, featuring the Stephen Foster (G1) as the main event and four other stakes as highlights.

Thorpedo Anna made a huge impact in 2024 with a dream campaign. Winner of the Kentucky Oaks (G1), Acorn Stakes (G1), Coaching Club American Oaks (G1), Cotillion Stakes (G1), and Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1), she established herself as the nation’s top filly with total authority.

Her 2025 season started perfectly with victories in the Azeri Stakes (G2) and Apple Blossom Stakes (G1), both at Oaklawn Park, before things went awry in the La Troienne.

That day, a troubled trip in the first turn with several bumps compromised her performance and she finished seventh, far from her best form. McPeek then chose to give her a break and carefully prepare her for this new engagement, with sights set again on the Breeders’ Cup in November at Del Mar.

Among Thorpedo Anna’s rivals is Taxed, who finished second to the champion in the La Troienne and will be back in the lineup.
