RÍO CUARTO, Córdoba (Special for Turf Diario).— The hope that united family members, friends, and colleagues for weeks turned into profound sadness. Tomás Emanuel Arrieta Giovanini passed away after remaining hospitalized as a result of the severe accident he suffered while working a horse. The news spread across social media and was confirmed by the outlet Pasión Turfística, causing deep sorrow throughout the Argentine racing community.

Messages of farewell and condolences to his family multiplied rapidly. The pain was felt with particular intensity within Córdoba racing, where Arrieta had forged his path and where his surname remains closely linked with the sport. Expressions of grief also poured in from other regions across the country, standing in solidarity with his loved ones.

A member of a renowned racing family from Alcira Gigena, Tomás had found in the jockey profession a way to carry that legacy forward. His career unfolded primarily on the provincial circuit—a demanding realm in which he built experience and sought opportunities to carve out his place.

His official record included 9 victories, alongside extensive participation on non-graded tracks throughout the interior. Behind those numbers were long journeys, endless workdays, and the daily grind shared by so many riders who balance provincial fixtures with opportunities to compete at Argentina's major venues.

Palermo provided him with some of the highlight moments of his career. There, he earned victories in various renewals of the Especial Encuentro Provincial, the traditional series designed to bring provincial representatives onto the metropolitan stage and afford them a platform to showcase their talent.

In mid-July, he had returned to the winner's circle on Avenida del Libertador aboard Law and Order, a son of Le Blues with whom he secured another victory in those features. That triumph stood among his most recent joys on the Buenos Aires track, where he brought the craftsmanship honed on Córdoba racecourses.

The accident that led to his hospitalization occurred during a morning training session. Although full details surrounding the circumstances were not disclosed, initial reports indicated that the mount he was riding flipped over and pinned him against the ground in the fall.

After receiving immediate medical attention, he was transferred to the Hospital de Río Cuarto, where he was admitted to intensive care. In the early hours, it was reported that he remained in an induced coma under constant medical supervision. From that point forward, his condition kept his loved ones and much of the racing community in anxious suspense.

Throughout those weeks, fellow jockeys, trainers, owners, and fans shared messages of encouragement and joined in prayer circles for his recovery. That collective support now turned into its most painful expression through the heartfelt farewells that began circulating as news of his passing spread.

The death of Tomás Arrieta plunges into mourning a family deeply tied to thoroughbred racing and a community that held onto the hope of seeing him recover until the very end. What remains are the memories of his victories, the shared race days, and the affection of those who knew him on and off the track.

From Turf Diario, we extend our heartfelt support to his family, friends, and colleagues during this time of immense grief and offer our deepest condolences.
