Two Thousand Guineas Promises a Top-Tier Spectacle at San Isidro

Group 1 winners Colorado del Monte and Roi du Monde headline an exceptional list of entries for the upcoming classic, setting the stage for a highly anticipated showdown

The first major milestone of the second semester is officially underway. Hipódromo de San Isidro taken entries this Monday for the Gran Premio 2000 Guineas (G1), and the early lineup promises an absolute spectacle. Scheduled for Saturday, July 25, the mile test on the turf for 3-year-old colts has attracted an initial list of 12 hopefuls that sets the stage for a memorable clash.

The central figure will undoubtedly be Colorado del Monte, the fresh and convincing hero of the Gran Premio Estrellas Juvenile (G1). The son of Strategos will look to punch his ticket toward the Triple Corona with another standout performance, giving several rivals a chance at redemption. Prior to his Estrellas triumph, the Stud Facunditorepresentative had been justifiably disqualified from first place in Palermo's Gran Premio Montevideo (G1) due to interference.

On Carreras de las Estrellas day, he left Stay Tune (Fortify) in third, Barto (Pneumatic) in fourth, and post-time favorite Roi du Monde (Treasure Beach) in fifth—all of whom could reoppose him here. The latter, winner of the Gran Premio Gran Criterium (G1) by a narrow margin over Stay Tune, will be one of two strong cards played by Stud RDI. The powerhouse stable will also be represented by the Brazilian-bred Redemption Song (Outstrip), who enters the discussion following a spectacular winning debut.

The preliminary list of entries also features Excitement (Il Campione), Full Lujoso (Full Mast), Grikor (King Guillermo), Hi Pocho (Hi Happy), Kenakir (Il Campione), Pillo Puntano (Village King), and Unión de Todos(King Guillermo).

The Gran Premio 2000 Guineas features a total purse of 70,000,000 pesos, with a handsome 35,000,000 pesos reserved for the winner. The remaining purse will be distributed as follows: 12,250,000 pesos for second; 7,000,000 pesos for third; 4,550,000 pesos for fourth; 3,850,000 pesos for fifth; 3,150,000 pesos for sixth; 2,450,000 pesos for seventh; and 1,750,000 pesos for eighth.

Entry fees are set at 1,400,000 pesos per horse, meaning that if all initial entries are confirmed at the scratch box, the track will collect 16,800,000 pesos, which will not be added to the baseline purse. As is standard practice for Group 1 events, all confirmed runners must pass pre-race veterinary and clearance testing.

The high-profile card on Saturday, July 25, will also include the Clásico Eudoro J. Balsa (G3-1600m, turf) for fillies and mares 4-years-old and upward, alongside the Clásico Bayakoa (L-1600m, turf) for 3-year-old fillies. The latter takes over the slot on the calendar previously occupied by the inexplicably discontinued 1000 Guineas.
