Iván Monasterolo was enjoying a spectacular season until an accident sidelined him for a few weeks, but since his return, the jockey has done nothing short of reaffirming that phenomenal start. What he achieved this Wednesday at Hipódromo de San Isidro, however, was a feat with few parallels.

On a brilliantly inspired afternoon, he won all six races he competed in—a streak highlighted by his victory in the Handicap Stiletto aboard the surprising Memin Penguin (Strategos), delivering an extraordinarily clever ride.

No one can be surprised by the level of this professional, who turned heads from his apprentice days, losing his bug status in a flash back in 2015 during a run that saw him crowned Apprentice Jockey of the Year at the Carlos Pellegrini Awards. Today, with 933 total victories—60 in stakes events, including 8 G1 triumphs—he stands firm among the premier jockeys in the country.

The streak began early when, in the second race, he guided Alpha Zulu (Angiolo) to victory in the first division of the Premio El Seriote (1,100 m, dirt). Shortly after, he repeated the feat in the second division with debutante Agua Nieve(Angiolo), completing a double for the stallion, owner Stud Los Patrios, breeder Haras El Paraíso, and trainer Eduardo Accosano, for whom Monasterolo has been the go-to rider for quite some time.

Even with a temporary layoff factored in, Monasterolo has already tallied 75 wins this year from 305 mounts—a razor-sharp strike rate of 24.6 percent. Those figures place him sixth in the national jockey standings, having ridden in far fewer races than anyone else in the top ten.
