A fantastic investment—this is what Verenna has proven to be for the owners of Stud El Chorrito, after they acquired her at the Haras Juan Antonio sale late last season. Just days after changing silks, the daughter of Cosmic Trigger broke her maiden, repeated in late January, and this Saturday, she made a seamless transition to stakes company with another emphatic victory in the Omnium (L), contested over 1400 meters on the diagonal turf course at San Isidro.

Iván Monasterolo made the most of the filly’s 53-kilo impost—one of the lightest in the field—sending Eduardo Accosano’s trainee straight to the front to avoid trouble. Once in the stretch, she kicked clear and built a lead that proved insurmountable for her rivals.

From the back of the pack, Dream Serena (Forge, 54kg) closed to finish second, 1 1/2 lengths behind, while favorite Save Your Tears (Full Mast, 56kg) settled for third, another half-length back. The latter had tried to pressure the leader early in the stretch but weakened late. The final time of 1:21.15 was among the best of the afternoon.

Out of Noche de Veda (Orpen), Verenna is making a name for herself and fueling hopes that stepping up to the mile might not be out of reach. Only time will tell how far she can go—or if she even has a ceiling at all.
