Vertiginoso sprang a surprise while Carrousell left a formidable first impression
The 3-year-old colt drew off to a commanding victory in the Premio Garbiñe, while the daughter of Village Kingdebuted with an impressive seven-length triumph; Juan Cruz Rivarola scored a hat trick on the day
LA PLATA, Buenos Aires (Special for Turf Diario).— Moving up in class usually requires an adjustment period, but Vertiginoso resolved his without delay. Fresh off breaking his maiden at Palermo, he returned to the Bosque and sprang a surprise in the Premio Garbiñe, the feature race on an all-conditional card that also highlighted the impressive debut of Carrousell.
Reserved for 3-year-old colts with one win and contested over 1,400 meters, the engagement met a resounding response from the son of Japan and Viva Las Vegas, who drew off to a four-length margin over Emerit Hit (Hit It a Bomb). A dominant display accompanying an outcome that was not among the most anticipated.
With Daniel Arias in the irons, the defender of Stud Las 3 Generaciones, trained by Gustavo Boccardi, confirmed the progress he had shown during his trip to the Argentino. That had been his fifth performance and his only outing outside of La Plata; now, back at the venue where he began his campaign, he chained his second consecutive victory.
He had struggled to find his maiden win, but needed only one opportunity to secure his second. That shift in form was the most valuable aspect of the conquest: beyond overcoming his first test against winners, he did so with a margin that invites close attention to his upcoming steps.
If Vertiginoso provided the surprise, Carrousell delivered one of the largest doses of excitement. The filly debuted in the Premio Vacation Fitz, over 1,000 meters against fellow 3-year-old maidens, and settled matters by seven lengths. The kind of performance that immediately compels a look at the pedigree and prompts dreams of the future.
Ridden by Juan Cruz Rivarola, the representative of Stud 24 de Agosto Plottier is under the care of Víctor Villanueva and is a daughter of champion Village King and Chorister Rye (Catcher In the Rye). She belongs to the stallion's first crop and is out of that remembered Entre Ríos mare, a group-placed performer who left such fond memories on the track. The combination found a highly auspicious expression in this unveiling.
Also among the 3-year-old division, albeit with a much tighter finish, Henry the Champ secured his first victory in the Premio Club Astillero Río Santiago. In his seventh career start, he edged El Furtivo (Lucullan) by a half-head, ending the wait after several placing efforts. The son of Puerto Escondido was partnered by Martín La Palma and scored for Stud Los Pedros and trainer José Rivero.
The curtain fell with Don Chamamé, winner of the Premio Mr. Lider, over 1,200 meters for 6-year-olds and up with 3 or 4 wins. The son of Long Island Sound, runner-up in the Especial Forli in June, regained the spotlight with a solid triumph.
Among the jockeys, Juan Cruz Rivarola spearheaded the standings with a hat trick, while Daniel Arias, Tobías Cantó, and Martín La Palma each completed doubles.
