The Candy Ride stallion notched 3 straight winners on the card, a remarkable feat

It was a striking scene this Wednesday at San Isidro Racecourse, as three offspring of a stallion with limited crops won in consecutive races. Had this occurred with Il Campione (Scat Daddy) or Fortify (Distorted Humor), who cover much larger books of mares, it might not have drawn such attention.

However, the protagonist of this story was Vástago Salvaje, one of the many sons of Candy Ride to enter stud in the country, but one who died very young at just 10 years old, leaving behind only three generations at Haras El Cufa.

Milanesio (out of Manizar, by Manipulator), Che Samaritana (out of Spring Wells, by Greenspring), and Che Duque Salvaje (out of Che Duquesa, by Violence) strung together victories in the second, third, and fourth races of the afternoon at the Jockey Club circuit, allowing the sire to claim such a notable headline.

Vástago Salvaje arrived in the country in utero; his dam, Victoria Reel (Danehill Dancer), was imported from the United States by Haras La Pasión and would later gain fame for producing the remarkable Víctor Security (Stormy Atlantic), a double G1 winner and 2017 Champion Miler.

Carrying the silks of Stud Rubio B., Vástago Salvaje showed the talent to win 8 of his 14 starts, including the Handicap Mangangá and the Clásico Orange (L), in addition to finishing second in the Clásico Invasor (G3) and the Clásico Cayetano S. Sauro.

Such a campaign, combined with his distinguished genetics, prompted La Pasión to design a plan to develop him at stud, based at El Cufa with support from several breeders in the Río Cuarto area and Córdoba in general.

Despite his early passing, Vástago Salvaje proved prolific, producing 47 winners from 98 starters to date. His list of offspring includes the likes of Camus Superior, Che Sabandija, and Cristal Head, all official stakes winners, alongside other very good runners such as Valle Barún, Frape, Che Bahiano, Candy Gloriosa, Una Alma de Loca, and Sweet Icy.

It was a curious note provided by Vástago Salvaje during a quiet afternoon of racing—mostly of very low technical level—at San Isidro. As a son of Candy Ride, which always adds a measure of public affection, Vástago Salvaje may not have been the formidable stallion his sire is, but he managed to ensure he would not go unnoticed.
