The jockey of Calle de Tierra shared details about the daughter of Strategos and her brilliant victory in the Clásico Derli A. Gómez (G3)

LA PLATA, Argentina – The partnership between jockey Walter Aguirre and Stud El Gruñón continues to thrive, delivering win after win. One of their most special connections is with the filly Calle de Tierra, who once again showcased her class on Tuesday with a dominant victory in the Clásico Derli A. Gómez (G3). A highly anticipated duel with Baby Pass (Distinctiv Passion) never materialized, as the latter compromised her chances with a poor break.
Unfazed by the circumstances, the experienced jockey—one of the top riders in La Plata—executed his plan flawlessly aboard the daughter of Strategos, who remains unbeaten in four career starts and appears poised to extend her dominance at the local circuit.
Interviewed by Daniel Sinegub for La Plata's television, Aguirre shared insights into the performance of Luis H. Domínguez’s trainee: “She broke really well and wanted to rush things because she has a strong temperament, but luckily, once we passed the 900-meter mark, I was able to settle her... She makes everything very easy, has an incredible stride, and keeps improving. The only thing we need to work on is her character, but that’s normal with fillies. They’re still learning, and we’re guiding her through that process.”
Regarding her impressive progression, he added: “She surprised us in her debut because she had done very little in the mornings, yet still won. Then, ahead of the final of the Clásico Precoces, she took a big step forward. She constantly proves that she was born to run—some horses are just meant for it, and she is definitely one of them. The only challenge, as I said, is her temperament, but we’ll keep working on it.”
Aguirre also expressed his gratitude for riding such a talented filly: “When you get to ride a horse of Calle de Tierra’s caliber, you put in the extra effort to make sure everything goes right. I’m very thankful to her owners and trainer for the opportunity, and to everyone who has helped me grow in this amazing sport.”
He concluded with a hopeful note: “If I’m not mistaken, for some of the owners, this is their first experience having a horse, so they all come to the track and enjoy it. Hopefully, this brings more families and new people to racing, which is something we all love to see.”
