Wanda returned in full force: won the Especial Resuello and remains undefeated

Returning to the track following a five-month layoff, Wanda wired her rivals at San Isidro, successfully navigating her stakes debut while extending her flawless record to five wins in as many starts

Wanda faced several questions coming into Thursday's feature race at Hipódromo de San Isidro, the Especial Resuello, contested over 1,100 meters on the dirt. Off since April 30, stepping outside conditional ranks for the first time, and assigned 58 kilos—the second-highest weight in the field—she answered every single one from the front with the same authority shown before her layoff: capturing her fifth victory in as many starts to maintain an immaculate record.
Sent off as the betting favorite, the Stud La Aguada representative found an ideal partner in jockey Juan Cruz Villagra to navigate a demanding test. Breaking sharply, Villagra utilized her tactical speed to assume the lead and rated her efficiently to ensure sufficient reserves for the final stretch. The layoff did nothing to dull the quickness or determination of a mare taking an important step forward in her career.
Fractions of 23s7/100 and 46s48/100 reflected the solid tempo established up front. Big Win (Winning Prize, 54 kg) pressed her most closely throughout, attempting to press the pace and force the leader’s hand. Wanda, however, controlled the pressure comfortably without compromising her response when the true running began.
Reaching the home straight, the leader sustained her momentum to draw clear by 1 1/2 lengths over Ana de Armas(Angiolo, 54 kg), who snatched second in a tight finish among the chasers. Big Win finished third, a neck further back, with Liga de Honor (Legión de Honor, 56 kg) fourth by that same margin, and Save Your Tears (Full Mast, 60 kg) fifth another 3/4 length behind. The stopping time was 1m4s31/100.
The handicap weights provide further context to the performance. Only Save Your Tears, carrying 60 kilos, conceded weight to the winner. For Wanda, the 58-kilo burden came on top of the long layoff and the step up in class—a combination demanding far more than simply repeating her previous form. Her market support reflected confidence; her performance fully validated it.
This fifth consecutive victory carried greater significance than her previous ones. Until now, her perfect record had been crafted strictly within conditional company. The Especial Resuello allowed her to extend that streak against more seasoned rivals and secure her first victory outside that framework. While she must still prove how far she can go, this return provided an encouraging signal for what lies ahead.
There is also a strong family story behind her rise. Wanda is the final foal out of Way of Living (Hurricane Cat), who campaigned with great distinction for the Cordoban stable. Among her career highlights were a victory in the Clásico Carlos Casares (G3) and a runner-up finish in the Clásico Saturnino J. Unzué (G2), credentials that gave her pedigree prestige before entering the broodmare band.
Tracing back to the family of champion sprinter Wooden Girl (Mariache), the winner is honoring that rich tradition of speed. This time, she added durability under pressure and the ability to return at peak fitness. Five starts, five victories, and a successful step up in class: Wanda returned to action with every reason to start targeting even greater challenges.
