Winston, one of the standout colts of the current season in Argentina, has been purchased by a new ownership group and is set to continue his career in the United States. As learned by Turf Diario, the gray will be trained by Horacio de Paz in Lexington, Kentucky.

A son of Forge, bred by Haras La Manija, he previously raced for Stud Don Valentino and was trained by Juan Saldivia, putting together an excellent campaign with strong performances at Palermo, San Isidro and La Plata. Most of his racing came on dirt, although he made his debut with a runner-up finish on turf.

From 10 career starts, Winston recorded two important stakes victories, capturing both the Clasico Isidoro Aramburu (G3) and the Clasico Polla de Potrillos (G3) at La Plata. Over the same track, he was also second in the Clasico Provincia de Buenos Aires (G2) and the Clasico Pedro Goenaga (G2), third in the Clasico Jockey Club de la Provincia de Buenos Aires (G2), and fourth in the Clasico Old Man (G3).

A dominant winner in his third career start on the San Isidro auxiliary track, the colt closed out his Argentine campaign with an excellent effort in the Gran Premio Nacional (G1) at Palermo, finishing second, just 1 1/2 lengths behind Gordianus (Señor Candy). He rallied somewhat awkwardly in the stretch, leaving the clear impression that he could have finished even closer—or perhaps even turned the tables.

With a record of 10 starts: 3 wins, 5 seconds, 1 third and 1 fourth, and earnings totaling ARS 79,769,350, Winstonproved his class and versatility, performing at a high level from 1400 to 2500 meters. His campaign was also a testament to his soundness, as he raced steadily throughout a demanding Classic season without interruption.

Out of the stakes-placed Wally Nut (Luhuk), Winston is a half-brother to Walnut Grove (Orpen), winner of the Victorica Roca (G3) and Jamelao (L), and comes from the same family as G1 winners Forty Licks (Not For Sale), What a Man (Mastercraftsman), Alert (Southern Halo), Pepe Joy (Fortify), Newmarket (Salt Marsh), Numeraria(Southern Halo) and Real Number (Rainbow Corner), among others.

With such a résumé, Winston heads to the U.S. as a colt very much worth following in the upcoming season.
