LA PLATA.- With decades of experience in the game, Esteban Brown is savoring a career-defining moment with Elenika, the brilliant filly who captured Tuesday’s G2 Clásico Polla de Potrancas at La Plata, confirming her status as the top 3-year-old of the local season.

Working alongside his son Cristian and a dedicated team, Brown is making the most of having real talent in his barn. “I thought she looked even better than last time,” the trainer told Daniel Sinegub. “It’s only been 20 days since her last race, and she usually needs time to bounce back, but she came out of it great. She trained lightly, was calmer, and that’s why I told William [Pereyra] that now it was all up to him before he got on.”

Brown added: “I didn’t expect her to go to the lead, but she keeps improving. She’s still developing. Hopefully she comes out well and we can keep going forward. The plan is to target the G1 Gran Premio Selección, and the idea is to keep her here. Her owners don’t want to sell—they want to enjoy her, and I think that’s perfect.” He finished by thanking his stable staff and Elenika’s veterinary team.

Standing proudly beside him was William Pereyra, who added another major win to his résumé—his third Polla de Potrancas at La Plata, having previously taken the 2021 edition with Agua Máxima (Interdetto) and last year’s with Madonna Benois (Angiolo).

“First of all, I want to thank the whole team and the owners for trusting me,” said Pereyra. “I couldn’t ride her last time due to a personal issue, but they respected the call and gave me the mount back. She makes everything easy. She got to the front comfortably, so I let her be, even though it wasn’t the plan. From the 800-meter mark, she relaxed and traveled well. She had a serious rival in Forti Leaf, who came off a strong win at Palermo, but we handled her convincingly.”

The joy will soon give way to renewed focus as Team Brown prepares for Elenika’s biggest test yet: the 2000-meter G1 Gran Premio Selección. If all goes well, Pereyra will be back aboard, confident in a filly who has answered every call with poise and brilliance.
