The son of Il Campione, now close to turning 7 years old, won comfortably in the Clásico Día de la Bandera, over the heavy dirt at Palermo

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (Special for Turf Diario).– When it comes to delivering great spectacles and outstanding horses, turn sprinting is a specialist. Even though turf officials ignore the category from a stakes perspective—there is not a single G1 over 1,200 meters all year long, despite it being the distance and surface par excellence worldwide—the horses prove their worth on the track.

And there, remarkable names parade, such as El Mejor Recuerdo, who this Saturday at the Palermo Racecourse gifted another notable performance in the Clásico Día de la Bandera (1,200 m, dirt), letting everyone know that, despite being on the verge of turning 7 years old, his engine remains intact.

The dark bay, who in 2025 pulled off a massive upset in the Gran Premio Ciudad de Buenos Aires, engineered another great conquest on the back of tenacity, closely chasing the pacesetter Hit Rouge (Hit It a Bomb), overtaking him midway through the straight, and asserting clear superiority in the final meters.

The son of Il Campione ended up defeating Hit Rouge by 2 lengths, who by a neck held off Full Satisfaction (Full Mast), the third-place finisher. Performing well below expectations was Despacito (Sabayón), who finished a dull seventh and second-to-last.

Trained by Daniel Cima at Rosario's Independencia for Stud Haras Don Julián, El Mejor Recuerdo clocked a time of 1m11s14/100 over a heavy track and raised his tally to 16 victories from 31 career presentations. Impressive.
