The Stud-Haras Cumeneyén homebred earned her first black-type victory with a front-running performance in the República de Panamá, holding sway throughout. Kiriel chased in vain to finish second, while favored Eleven Mile failed to live up to expectations

A surprise result unfolded in Sunday’s featured G3 Clásico República de Panamá, held over 1000 meters on a fast main track at Hipódromo Argentino de Palermo, where fillies and mares aged 3 through 6 clashed under weight-for-age conditions in a race rich with intrigue and depth.

Emerging from the allowance ranks with a win just under a month ago, Beau Breeze rose to the occasion in her stakes debut, turning in a gate-to-wire tour de force that left little doubt. The Stud-Haras Cumeneyén homebred took command early, traveled powerfully throughout, and drew off inside the final furlong, repelling all challengers with authority.

A distant ninth in the same race last year, the daughter of AP Candy returned in resounding fashion to put the colors of the Tartaglia family’s breeding and racing operation back in the spotlight on a day when they had already celebrated earlier success with El Estanciero (Fire Slam) over 2200 meters in the Premio Smeraldina.

The victory marked the first black-type triumph for the silks since Ready to Candy, a paternal half-brother to Beau Breeze, captured the Clásico Aristophanes over this same straightaway. If limited to group-level victories, the last came on August 27, 2016, when Tormenta Stripes (Fire Slam) landed the G3 Clásico México, also at Palermo and over the same trip.

Ridden with confidence by Kevin BanegasBeau Breeze never looked in danger. Kiriel (Catcher In the Rye) tracked throughout but was clearly second-best, beaten 2 1/2 lengths. Louisiana Lady (Manipulator) closed inside to finish third, another head back, and added valuable black-type to her page. Favored Eleven Mile (Il Campione), who loomed as the one to beat, could only manage fourth, a further head behind. The final time was a solid 55.41.

A 4-year-old out of Beauty News (Fire Slam), Beau Breeze hails from a deep female family rooted in the legacy of Haras El Candil, home to a host of Argentine champions including Toquete (Trial by Error), Stars and Stripes (Parade Marshal), Off the Record (Over the Ocean), Dancing for Me (Lucky Roberto), and the influential sire Not for Sale(Parade Marshal).
