In the sprint division for fillies on the turf at Hipódromo de San Isidro, anything can happen — and the Clásico Ocurrencia (G3, 1000m) was proof of that, with Flamboyance Rim stunning the crowd by taking the win at a massive $37.55 payout.

Though she had been showing promise — finishing fifth in the Clásico República de Panamá (G3) and third in the Clásico Producción Nacional (L) in her two most recent outings — she faced several rivals who had previously beaten her, which helped explain the long odds.

But, as often happens in racing, the outcome unfolded contrary to most expectations. With Wilfrido Torres Maldonadoaboard and sporting a numeric jacket, Flamboyance Rim stayed well-positioned within the wide pack chasing front-runner Durmia (Cityscape), who set steady fractions of :23.18 and :45.28.

Approaching the 300-meter mark, the winner launched her bid to catch the leader, overtaking Durmia in the final furlong and gradually opening a small gap — ultimately winning by a neck at the wire. Close behind on the inside, running a superb race, Nisa (Angiolo) completed a trifecta of three of the four longest-priced horses.

Favorite Forever Rim (Remote) finished fourth, three lengths back, with Enjoy Dancing (Hi Happy) rallying for fifth at 2 1/4 lengths, but was never a threat.

Trainer Roberto Sander presented the Stud La Vieja runner from Dolores, bred and raised at Haras Firmamento, which completed an impressive double by taking both stakes on the card.

For Remote, this marked his 36th stakes winner in Argentina, spanning seven racing generations. On the bottom side of the pedigree, Flamboyance Rim is the first foal of Flamboyance (Invincible Spirit), daughter of the formidable Emotion Parade (Parade Marshal), granddam of triple G1 winner Emotion Orpen (Orpen) and sister to another champion, Empeñosa Fitz (Fitzcarraldo), all from the family of the unforgettable Latency (Slew Gin Fizz).
