LA PLATA.- Six-year-old Señora Bagaces (Señor Candy) continued her solid run of form Tuesday at La Plata, capturing the competitive Especial Curtida Nistel over 1200 meters on a fast main track. Winner of the Especial Haras El Tala back in May, she was coming off a fourth-place finish behind Una Causa (True Cause) in the Handicap Haras La Esperanza, which perhaps explains the generous $12.35 payout she returned here as the sixth choice on the board.

Carrying 56 kilos, one of the highest imposts in the field, the chestnut mare is trained by Miguel A. Fochetti and races for Stud F. Enrique, the same silks carried by dual G1 winner El Exito (Il Campione), who is slated to stretch out to 1800 meters Monday in the G2 Clásico Perú at Palermo.

With Daniel E. Arias, currently enjoying a strong run, in the irons, Señora Bagaces tracked in midpack and appeared momentarily boxed in around the turn as Eslovena (Il Campione, 52 kg)High Rimout (Remote, 54 kg), and the favorite Emely (Il Campione, 54 kg) vied for command up front. In the lane, Emely seized a clear lead, but Señora Bagaces angled out sharply, found running room, and launched an unstoppable rally to take over 50 meters from the wire.

At the finish, she held Emely safe by a length, with High Rimout another length back in third. Truly Princess (Daddy Long Legs, 56 kg), a strong betting choice who had never been beaten on this track, failed to fire and checked in sixth, 6 3/4 lengths adrift, in a disappointing effort.

The final time was 1:11.48, with sharp early splits of 23.45 and 46.54.

Bred by Capfrut SA out of Senora Saeki (Lemon Drop Kid), Señora Bagaces now owns a record of 6 wins in 17 starts, with earnings approaching ARS 18,000,000. Still running like a filly despite just turning six, her connections are left with a decision: retire her to the breeding shed or keep her in training for more photos in the winner’s circle.
