HALLANDALE BEACH, Florida (Special for Turf Diario).— Consolidating her evolution in the northern big leagues, the Argentine Ayra Stark delivered a high-flying performance this Saturday at Gulfstream Park, falling with honors to the final surge of Sultana in the 2,400 meters of the Orchid Stakes (G3-US$ 175,000 purse). Owned by Haymarket Farm LLC, she set the pace with authority and only yielded in the final breath, confirming herself as one of the most serious stayers of the season on the turf.

The race featured a vibrant development from the jump, with Ayra Stark taking the lead under the guidance of Joel Rosario. The daughter of Cosmic Trigger set fractions of 23s79/100, 48s71/100, and 1m24s22/100, always hounded by Ramsey Pond (Divisadero) and with the favorite Bellezza (Siyouni) waiting expectantly in the chasing pack. Upon entering the homestretch, the Argentine showed her characteristic grit, shook off her immediate pursuers, and seemed headed for glory, but she could not withstand the violent outside late run of the winner.

Sultana, a daughter of Always Dreaming presented by Kevin Attard, reappeared after a long layoff since her victory in the Maple Leaf (G3) at Woodbine to spring an 18-to-1 upset. Under the ride of Venezuelan Junior Alvarado, the defender of the colors of Lou Donato, Theodore Manziaris, Paul Borrelli, and Lanni Bloodstock advanced wide on the final turn to grab the victory by just a neck, stopping the clock in 2m24s47/100 for the mile and a half on firm turf.

Behind Ayra Stark, 3/4 of a length back, finished Speed Shopper (Quality Road), who had bested the mare trained by Horacio De Paz in their last two outings.

After the race, the feeling remained that the Argentine has reached her competitive maturity, now boasting three consecutive seconds at the stakes level, with the distinction of stepping up in class without losing form.

After dominating nearly the entire trip in one of the most traditional long-distance tests of the Florida meet, the horizon for Ayra Stark in this 2026 looks extremely promising...
