Owners of horses that were not nominated as foals have until July 15 to register them into the program, making them eligible to compete in the 14 races of the prestigious world championships, which this year will distribute more than $34 million in purses at Keeneland

LEXINGTON, Kentucky (Special for Turf Diario).— Owners of horses of racing age not previously nominated to the Breeders’ Cup program have until this Wednesday, July 15, to take advantage of promotional rates and make their horses eligible to compete in the Breeders’ Cup World Championships, scheduled for October 30 and 31 at Keeneland.

The 2026 edition of the prestigious American festival will feature 14 races and distribute more than $34 million in purses and various incentive awards. To be entered in any of these races, every horse must be part of the program, either through nomination as a foal or by subsequent registration through the system designed for horses in training.

Once the nomination fee is paid, the horse remains eligible throughout its entire career to participate in both the Breeders’ Cup World Championships and the various purse and reward programs linked to the organization, without requiring further registration payments.

Until July 15, 2-year-olds sired by nominated stallions can enter the program for $12,000. Meanwhile, Northern Hemisphere-bred 3-year-olds and upward by nominated sires will receive a 50 percent discount on the standard rate, requiring a payment of $50,000.

The incentive is even greater for Southern Hemisphere-bred 3-year-olds and upward, provided they are by a nominated stallion. In these cases, nomination is priced at $25,000, equivalent to just 25 percent of the standard fee.

The individual making the payment will be officially recognized as the horse's nominator and will be entitled to receive future nominator awards. These awards extend to all money-earning positions in the Breeders’ Cup World Championships.

Additionally, the organization will pay a $10,000 award to the nominator of any horse registered through this system that subsequently wins a race in the Breeders’ Cup Challenge Series: Win and You’re In.

The July 15 deadline is of critical importance, as fees for unnominated horses will increase significantly once the window closes. For offspring of nominated stallions, the cost will jump to $100,000 across all ages and locations of birth.

Promotional rates are also available for offspring of non-nominated stallions. Until this Wednesday, 2-year-olds can be nominated for $18,000; Northern Hemisphere-bred 3-year-olds and upward for $100,000; and Southern Hemisphere-bred horses for $50,000.

After the deadline, all of those fees will rise to $200,000, regardless of the horse's age or hemisphere of birth.

The next major milestone on the calendar will be October 19, the deadline for pre-entries to the various races of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships.

Interested owners can complete the process online or contact the Breeders’ Cup racing department at 859-514-9422.

With Keeneland preparing to once again host the stars of international racing, the organization aims to facilitate the addition of new contenders during these final hours. For owners who still harbor ambitions of reaching the big stage in Lexington, Wednesday represents a financial boundary that is hard to ignore.
