LA PLATA.- It was not the afternoon for the favorites in Sunday's stakes at the eucalyptus trees. Storm Sound (Hi Happy) could do nothing against the overwhelming superiority of Yak Sport (Glory Seattle) in the Jockey Club de Corrientes, and, a while later, El Resero Con Capa (Angiolo) bumped into an unreachable Campo Verde in the Clásico Jockey Club Argentino (L-1400 m, dirt), the most important race of the day.

The colt that in the middle of last season had made his mark by winning the Clásico Estrellas Junior Sprint (G3) on the Palermo dirt, and who was coming off a comfortable win in a conditional race making his debut here, confirmed that the local track suits him perfectly and now easily defeated the public's favorite, who once again felt uncomfortable trying to go beyond 1200 meters.

Juan Cruz Villagra was fully decisive with the winner, placing him in front from the jump within a field of only 4 participants—Vampiro Zen (Zensational) was a non-runner—in the kind of races where not waiting pays dividends.

The colt came out fast, passing the initial 400 meters in 23s19/100 and the 800 in 45s22/100. Midway through the turn, El Resero Con Capa tried to go after him but hit an opponent unwilling to surrender.

Once in front of the stands, Campo Verde steadied himself and galloped toward the finish, arriving 3 lengths ahead of his adversary in 1m23s1/100, tiring late, as his final fraction was 13s28/100, logical given the effort made in the first part (the 1200 meters were passed in 1m9s63/100).

Trained by Miguel Cafere at San Isidro's Campo 2, and carrying the colors of Stud Mamina, the bay was bred at Haras El Paraíso and gave another stakes-level victory to the generous champion Strategos, who a day earlier had also had a fruitful afternoon on the Jockey Club turf.

Campo Verde was unstoppable in the Jockey Club Argentino, with El Resero Con Capa making it clear that his preference lies in sprinting with a turn.
