SANTIAGO DE CHILE, Chile (Special for Turf Diario).- With the major calendar already in the books and following the definition of the main G1 events, Club Hípico de Santiago, Hipódromo Chile, and Valparaíso Sporting Club have made official the names that will represent the country in the XLII Gran Premio Latinoamericano (G1), scheduled for Sunday, April 26, at Hipódromo de Monterrico.

Medjool (Constitution), Apolo Rey (Mendelssohn), and Teao (Ya Primo) will be the cards from those institutions for the continental meeting, which this year will be run over the Lima turf and offer $300,000 in prize money. Chile, true to its leading tradition in the race, will bet on a trio that combines current form, consistency, and classic experience.

Medjool (Stud El Mirador), trained by Julio Orellana, leads the delegation. A horse with a solid campaign, he just took the Clásico Verano (G2) at Blanco Encalada and was second to Obataye (Courtier) in the 2025 version of the Latinoamericano when it was held at Hipódromo da Gávea in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Apolo Rey (Stud Súper Nico), under the preparation of Luis Urbina, is none other than the winner of the St Leger(G1) at the Hipódromo, but he also finished second in the 2000 Guineas (G1) at the Club and third in El Derby (G1) in Viña.

Finally, Teao (Stud El Tata), also presented by Julio Orellana, has just won El Derby, but in 2025 he had also demonstrated a great level, winning the Gran Criterium (G1) and the 2000 Guineas.

Additionally, authorities designated My Way (Mendelssohn) of Stud RT as the official alternate; the horse will remain under a specific training regimen in case of any last-minute eventualities, ensuring that Chile has a full presence in the Monterrico starting gate.

The boards of the country's three main racetracks highlighted the high competitive level reached this season and the joint work to coordinate transfers, logistics, and sanitary planning under international standards.

Medjool, Apolo Rey, and Teao join the Argentine Thor Medina (Mootasadir), representing San Isidro, and Puppi's Husband (Fortify) and Khamal (Mendelssohn), both for Peru, as the already confirmed participants. Furthermore, the aforementioned Obataye will attempt to defend his title.

This weekend more names could be added, with reference races taking place across the continent.

With the names defined and the objective clear, Chile is already making its move. The Monterrico turf awaits, and the Latinoamericano once again summons that mix of hope, pride, and rivalry that distinguishes South American turf.
