Haras Don Florentino has long been one of the cornerstones of the Argentine breeding industry. The legacy of the beloved Gringo Grimaldi continues to thrive through the work of LuisLucas, and Luciano, who have brought a modern touch to the historic Córdoba-based operation, while remaining firmly rooted in the pursuit of genetic excellence.

Located in the small town of La Francia, Don Florentino is a regular source of headlines thanks to the performance of its homebreds on the track. Now, the stud is making news for a bold new addition to its stallion roster: Cyclone Mischief, a colt that checks all three boxes breeders look for in a stallion prospect—race record, physical presence, and pedigree.

By none other than Into Mischief (Harlan’s Holiday)—the dominant sire in North America, six-time champion and counting—Cyclone Mischief also boasts the same potent genetic cross as Sovereignty, the stallion's third GI Kentucky Derby winner, produced just last week. Both horses are out of mares by Bernardini (A.P. Indy), one of today’s most influential broodmare sires.

Bred in Kentucky by Castleton Lyons and Kilboy Estate, Cyclone Mischief was purchased by Albaugh Family Stables LLC for $450,000 at the 2021 Keeneland September Yearling Sale and was trained by Dale Romans. He broke his maiden at two in his second start at Keeneland, then kicked off his 3-year-old season with another win at Gulfstream Park.

He ran into traffic trouble in the GIII Holy Bull S., but bounced back with two highly credible efforts when finishing third in both the GII Fountain of Youth S. and the GI Florida Derby, behind Forte (Violence) and Mage (Good Magic), the eventual Kentucky Derby hero.

Cyclone Mischief went on to compete in the opening leg of the Triple Crown and added two more wins under allowance conditions at Ellis Park and Gulfstream, retiring with a record of 4 wins from 18 starts and earnings of $405,528.

His dam, Areyoucominghere, has only a few foals of racing age and is a half-sister to Suddenbreakingnews(Mineshaft), winner of the GIII Southwest S. and runner-up in the GI Arkansas Derby. The colt’s second dam descends from the outstanding Party Cited (Alleged), a G3 winner who produced Composure (Touch Gold), winner of the GI Santa Anita Oaks and later the dam of GII winner Penwith (Bernardini), among others.

With a physique that reflects the best traits of his sire, Cyclone Mischief arrives as a natural heir to Qué Vida Buena(Bernstein), now 20, and joins a stallion lineup that includes GI winners Don Empeño (Exchange Rate) and Perro Callejero (Qué Vida Buena).

Though economic challenges persist, Argentina’s breeders continue to invest in top-tier bloodstock, reaffirming their commitment to excellence and the future of racing—driven by heart, passion, and the eternal dream of reaching the winner’s circle at the highest level.
