The Il Campione filly went wire to wire in Thursday’s classic, with Daniel Arias shining in the saddle

LA PLATA.- Delivering a superb performance, Emely ended La Meninha’s (Le Blues) unbeaten record at La Plata with a clear-cut win in the Clásico República de Chile (1200m, fast dirt), the feature event on Thursday’s program.
The daughter of Il Campione dictated terms, quickened decisively in the stretch, and had enough left late to repel her rival by 2 lengths, fully justifying the public’s confidence as the race favorite.
Daniel Eduardo Arias played a pivotal role aboard the Stud Par de Ases filly, reading the race flow to perfection. With only four runners—Gran Celestial (Il Mercato) was a scratch—the lead was hers for the taking, but she still needed to pace herself to avoid an unsustainable tempo.
The opening fraction of :24.21 already hinted that catching her would be difficult, prompting Adrián Giannetti to position La Meninha closer than usual in second.
Emely continued to cruise comfortably, saving her energy for the decisive moments, and in the final furlong she had plenty in reserve to keep her advantage intact and turn back La Meninha’s attempts to close the gap.
The margin was 2 lengths at the wire, with Save Your Tears (Full Mast) checking in third, 4 lengths back, and holding off Truly Princess (Daddy Long Legs) by a neck. Final time: 1:11.45, with a complementary 800-meter split of :47.55.
Trained by Bruno Pasqualini, the filly—bred by Haras El Paraíso—earned her sixth win from 12 starts, her third stakes victory and her second at the listed/classic level.
Emely is out of Rude Girl (Bahiaro), a maternal sister to the outstanding Travelwell (True Cause), the leading filly of 2013 at La Plata, winner of nearly every step of the selection process, including the Selección (G1) and Polla (G2), before her premature passing.
