The 35th renewal of Las Carreras de las Estrellas, Argentina’s premier racing event sponsored by Fundación Equina Argentina, began to take full shape Monday with the release of entries for its nine-race lineup scheduled for Saturday, June 28 at Palermo’s main track.

With an impressive $466.4 million pesos in purses on offer—excluding additional supplements to be paid by connections of late-nominated horses—the series attracted a total of 112 entries. The Estrellas Junior Sprint (G3) for 2-year-olds leads the way with 23 names, while the Juvenile Fillies (G1), Estrellas Dirt, and Estrellas Dirt Junior drew just 8 probable starters each.

As always, the centerpiece will be the G1 Gran Premio Estrellas Classic, to be contested over 2000 meters on dirt and open to 3-year-olds and up. With a purse of $80 million pesos—$50 million to the winner—the race has drawn 14 probable runners, headed by Need You Tonight. The talented dark bay was last seen capturing the G1 Gran Premio República Argentina and is expected to be supplemented at a cost of $15 million pesos, which will be added to the prize pool.

Among his challengers are Acento Final (Treasure Beach), winner of the 2024 G1 Gran Premio Jockey Club, and a trio of fillies who may take on the males: Martana (Fortify), Knows All (Le Blues), and Alma Vasca (Alma de Acero)—all of whom are also cross-entered in the G1 Estrellas Distaff over the same trip.

Other notable names in the Classic include Holy Holy Rim (Remote), a last-out stakes winner; graded performers Endor Rye (Endorsement) and One Thing (Brz-Drosselmeyer); and a group of tough campaigners such as Cornwall(Remote), Grand Canyon (Long Island Sound), Kopke (Hi Happy)—also entered in the G1 Mile—Oleguer (Equal Stripes), Señor Importante (Fortify), and Song Kas (Sixties Song).

The Distaff, which offers $64 million pesos in total purses, has attracted 13 entries, including the aforementioned Martana, Knows All, and Alma Vasca. Potential standout contenders include Coni Fizz (Marconi) and Obra Clásica(Suggestive Boy), who will be stretching out to 2000 meters for the first time, and graded stakes performers Poker Mommy (Daddy Long Legs), Neowise (Brz-Agnes Gold), and Noche Alta (Hi Happy), the latter also cross-entered in the Mile.

Grade-placed Presencial (Suggestive Boy) and rising talents Herd Immunity (Forge), Bella Marieta (Cosmic Trigger), International Look (Cosmic Trigger), and Titmus (Cima de Triomphe) round out a deep and intriguing field.

Final declarations for the 2025 Carreras de las Estrellas will be accepted until midday on Monday, June 23. That evening, the post-position draw will take place at 6 p.m. on the third floor of Palermo’s Tribuna Paddock.

Now in its 35th year, Las Estrellas remains a staple of the Argentine turf calendar, promising world-class racing and compelling storylines across every division.
