The chestnut reaffirmed his status as a top stayer at Monterrico, while the Chilean was coming off a run in the Latinoamericano in Rio de Janeiro

LIMA, Peru (Special to Turf Diario) – The Clásico Comercio – ADEX (G3) once again found a clear and dominant owner: Gluck. The 6-year-old chestnut son of Koko Mambo out of Musical Prodigy (Bernstein), bred by Haras San Pablo and campaigned by Stud Santa Rosa, extended his sparkling form with another front-running exhibition that reaffirmed his status as Monterrico’s leading stayer.
With trademark precision, Miguel Vilcarima sent him straight to the lead and never looked back, the veteran responding exactly as expected to the spotless presentation of owner-trainer José Soyer.
Gluck, who has put together a remarkable résumé, earned the 19th victory of his 30-start career, pushing his earnings past S/ 770,000 and showing no signs of slowing down. In the lane, he simply outclassed Dvorak (Editorial), drawing off to score by 6 3/4 lengths in another display of superiority. Fractions of :24.15, :48.51, 1:15.64, 1:43.61 and 2:11.31 set up a final clocking of 2:30.41 for the 2300 meters—an honest tempo he controlled throughout.
The Sunday card also marked a welcome rebound from Happy Man, the 4-year-old son of Mendelssohn and On Off(Street Sense), bred by Haras Don Alberto and racing for Stud Doña Licha. After failing to fire in his ambitious bid in the Gran Premio Latinoamericano (G1) in Brazil, he returned home and regained his best form, capturing the Clásico Victoria de Tarapacá over 1800 meters on turf.
Given a patient, well-timed ride by Rito Almanza, Happy Man justified favoritism to notch the sixth win of his career. The Argentine-bred Padre Roberto (Hurricane Cat) finished a strong second, beaten only half a length, with Vacacional(Verrazano) and Agnar (The Lieutenant) completing the frame. The final time was 1:49.98, after a minor incident at the break when the rider of Marc Spacial (Marconi) was unseated, fortunately without consequences.
A day earlier, the evergreen Sherlock added his name to the weekend’s highlights. Now 7, the son of Eye On Jacob and Persian Storm (Badge of Silver), bred by Haras Los Eucaliptos and representing Stud Cayaltí, continued his terrific run by landing the Clásico Gran Mariscal Andrés Avelino Cáceres over 1000 meters. Under Josué Espinoza for trainer Camilo Traverso II, he secured the 15th win of his long and productive career, edging the Argentine-bred favorite Super Rafito (Super Saver) in a tight finish.
