Daughter of Señor Candy Eyes Another Score in La Plata's Haras de la Pomme Handicap

LA PLATA.- Jalimba, a standout filly, comes off a strong recent victory at La Plata and now aims to continue her winning streak in Thursday’s feature race, the Handicap Haras de la Pomme (1600 meters on dirt).
Trained by Omar Labanca in Palermo, the daughter of Señor Candy will carry top weight of 57 ½ kilos. Her last performance was a notable 2-length win over Clare (Puerto Escondido) in the Especial Miss Loren. That day she was ridden by Gonzalo Borda, but this time she will reunite with her regular jockey, Lautaro Balmaceda.
Always eager to race near the lead or on the front, the chestnut mare faces several worthy rivals. Among them is Illa Alegre (Sabat Husson, 54 kilos), who has been in good form, including a strong third-place finish in the Clásico Joaquín V. Maqueda (G3), crossing the line 6 lengths behind Escolastic Girl (Suggestive Boy).
Sharpened by trainer Armando Glades, Elvi Grace (Southern Cat, 54 ½ kilos) was third, 3 lengths behind Elvitas(Cosmic Trigger), in a tough conditional race at San Isidro 13 days ago. She had previously shown solid form in handicaps under Elías Antúnez and Ipe, making her a contender to watch.
Finally, in the mix is Reina del Amazonas (Hurricane Cat, 56 kilos), trained by the in-form Juan J. Etchechoury, who recently demonstrated grit in a competitive alternative conditions race on the San Isidro dirt.
Jalimba will look to leverage her front-running style and recent form to repeat her triumph and reinforce her status among the top mares in the local ranks.
