The stable and the trainer won for the fifth time the most important race of La Punta; for the jockey, it was his third victory

LA PUNTA, San Luis (Special for Turf Diario).- Winning the Gran Premio Vicente Dupuy (G3-2400 m, dirt), the only graded race in the interior of the country, is no simple task. However, for trainer Oscar Rébora, the La Nona stable, and jockey Juan Carlos Noriega, it seems as if it were.
Now with a relentless Tamarisco Cat, the silks and the trainer celebrated together for the fifth time in the great trophy of Hipódromo La Punta, while the Cordovan pilot raised it for the third time, in a display of formidable endurance, as the first of those cups was with Escamonda (Alpha Plus) in the inaugural 2009 edition.
The son of Southern Cat, who had already triumphed in the Clásico San Jerónimo, the peak event of the Cordovancalendar, felt right at home, being a protagonist from early on, dominating halfway through the stretch and putting up a wall at the end, prevailing by 1 1/2 lengths.
Charging long and from afar, the favorite Billion (Galicado) rounded out a valuable effort to finish as the runner-up, a neck ahead of Cornwall (Remote), another of the main contenders in the preview. At 1 1/2 lengths, Endo Verde(Endorsement), the winner from 12 months ago, performed well by finishing fourth.
La Nona and Rébora had already claimed the Dupuy in that historic four-timer between 2017 and 2020, with Gallileo's Town (Speightstown), Laureliano (Roman Ruler), Atlas Again (Harlan's Holiday), and Elmaestrodelarte (Art Master), and now they have shone once again.
Noriega, for his part, in addition to excelling with Escamonda, was a partner with the former team on the afternoon of Elmaestrodelarte. The Cordovan jockey, one of the oldest in activity, continues to deliver unforgettable performances, charming celebrations, and unique moments, with that aura of a beloved guy that accompanies him every second.
Sunday's meeting at La Punta included another official stakes race with the Estrellas Puntanas, where Gritalo Gringo(Touareg) added his third victory—and his third Estrella. The representative of Stud La Chupina had won the Estrellas Provincias Argentinas on his debut, later prevailing in the Estrellas Cuyanas.
Now, the bay born at Haras Don Florentino finished 3/4 of a length ahead of Cursi Man (Manipulator), guided by Carlos Aguirre and under the training of José Luis Silva.
