With a strong stretch run, the dark bay filly bred by La Fortaleza secured her first stakes victory and continues her upward trajectory

LA PLATA.- Making her debut over the local surface, Córdoba-bred Lissette Island scored the biggest victory of her career on Thursday, capturing the Clásico Caballerizas Argentinas (1000m, dirt), the feature of the day at La Plata. Known for its tight turns that often prove tricky for newcomers, the track posed no problem for the daughter of Lizard Island, who drew on her experience at San Isidro’s inner dirt course—its closest equivalent—and took full advantage of the lessons learned in her previous outing when finishing fourth to Bichita de Luz (Fragotero) in the Clásico Snow Figure.
With Iván Monasterolo aboard and under weight-for-age conditions, the Stud El Káiser runner was on the pace right from the break, matching strides with Bayonne (Puerto Escondido) while holding the tactical edge on the outside.
After clocking an opening split of :23.67, the pair straightened for home locked together, but Lissette Island soon began to assert her superiority, drawing away powerfully in the final 200 meters to win with authority.
Bayonne ran bravely to secure second, four lengths adrift of the winner and the same margin ahead of Gurisa Mask(Mask) in third. The final time was an excellent :59.30, with an 800-meter split of :47.20.
Bred by Haras La Fortaleza, Lissette Island began her career at Río Cuarto in Córdoba, where she is trained, winning by a wide margin on debut. She quickly proved her class at the major tracks, and now boasts a record of four wins from seven starts, with earnings exceeding 20 million pesos.
Presented by Germán Knuttsen, the bay filly is the fourth winner produced by Channel Sale (Not for Sale), herself out of the US-bred L.C. Channel (English Channel), imported by the now-defunct Haras Arroyo de Luna. Channel Sale has also produced Black Codes (Not for Sale), Caoimhe (Cosmic Trigger), and Lady Chanel (Not for Sale), all of them notable winners in their own right.
