On a card marked by a low technical level, they secured victories that push them closer to the higher-stakes ranks

Beyond Ataka (Señor Candy)’s victory in the Handicap El Centauro, Monday’s program at Hipódromo Argentino de Palermo wasn't exactly one for the history books. The country’s main tracks have started the season in full "summer mode," with the schedule mostly consisting of low-value races. One can only hope the equation changes; otherwise, 2026 will feel like a very long year.
In the allowance ranks, a couple of names stood out from the crowd. One was the 4-year-old Maestro de Fe (Master of Hounds), who continues to evolve and is already showing promise for a jump to stakes company. The Stud Tramo 20color-bearer captured the Premio Leona Mística, contested over 2200 meters on the inner turf for winners of 1 or 2 races.
In just his second start on the grass, the bay took revenge on Private Blend (Lucullan), who had previously beaten him by 7 lengths in a similar race over 2000 meters on dirt. With William Pereyra aboard, Maestro de Fe tracked the pace before surfacing in the stretch to quickly overhaul Private Blend and Travel Pass (Fortify). Once in command, the Juan Saldivia trainee held firm to win by 1 1/2 lengths in 2:13.98.
Later in the card, the Premio Mar de Flores featured 3-year-old winners over the straight 1000-meter dirt course. There, Larson (Le Blues) upset the heavy favorite Cielo Grande (Strategos) by a half-length. Guided by the efficient Brian Enrique, the winner and runner-up dueled from the break nearly to the wire, with Larson always holding a narrow advantage. He stopped the clock in :56.60, a valuable mark considering the track was far from fast.
Hugo A. Acuña saddled the representative of Stud E.R.J.E. (San Francisco, Córdoba), who now boasts two wins from just four starts and looks poised to join the ranks of promising sprinters in the near future.
