Orpen Trigger was top price at the Convenios Sale

A strong catalogue and a group of physically impressive youngsters found their perfect match in the sales ring during the Gran Venta Convenio de Destetes, held last Wednesday by Racehorse in a live online format.

Organized in partnership with Five Fingers, and Haras La Nora, Santa Rita, Vacación, and San Agustín, the auction featured offspring by some of the most in-demand stallions of the moment. So it came as no surprise that the top prices went to weanlings by Cosmic Trigger (Lizard Island) and Gouverneur Morris (Constitution).

Topping the sale at $22,800 was Orpen Trigger, a filly by Cosmic Trigger and Orpen Ten (Orpen), making her a half-sister to seven winners, including stakes performers Tensado Craf (Mastercraftsman) and Ten Rye (Catcher In the Rye). Consigned by Santa Rita, she hails from a deep black-type family that includes top-level winners Tradizione(Forlitano), Have a Champ (Ski Champ), and Super Corinto (Super Saver). She was purchased in 12 installments of $1900 by Stud Garabo.

Second-highest price of the day went to Gobernador Casual, a colt by Gouverneur Morris consigned by Haras La Nora, for whom Haras Parque Patricios signed the ticket at $20,400. Out of Qué Casual (Thunder Gulch), he is a half-brother to El Billarista (El Corredor), winner of the G3 Guillermo Kemmis, and to the hard-knocking Que Chula(Endorsement), from the family of the unforgettable Repartija (Tempranero).

Rounding out the podium was Clinton, a colt by Dabster out of Ceci for Win (Equal Stripes), consigned by Haras San Agustín and purchased by Francisco Hernández for $15,600.

In all, the 28 weanlings offered grossed $231,000, with an average price of $8,250 and a median of $6,833.
