In another demonstration of his excellent current form, the son of Asiatic Boy broke the brave leader Western Orpen in the final furlong

Carrying a heavy 60 kilos and giving it his all, Quality Boy continued his great form with a valuable victory in the Especial Full Sail (1800 m, normal dirt), the central race of Wednesday at the Hipódromo de San Isidro. Beyond the joy, it was a prize of barely 5,125,000 pesos (before deductions) that corresponded to the son of Asiatic Boy, a figure with which his owners will barely be able to pay a couple of months of pension. Believe it or not, that is the state of purses at the country's main tracks, in one of the worst historical ratios.
It was not easy at all for the horse now representing the Pedro Agustín stable to justify his favoritism, as he faced a rival willing to do anything in Western Orpen (Orpen, 56), who is younger and lighter.
In fact, it was precisely the latter who came out determined to set the pace, forcing the rest to follow in his footsteps. Given that scenario, Brian Enrique, the winner's jockey, made a risky but ultimately fundamental decision: not to let him run freely, putting on the pressure and forcing him to wear himself out.
Under fractions of 24s84/100, 47s81/100, and 1m11s86/100, the moment of decision arrived, offering a vibrant spectacle. For much of the straight, Western Orpen resisted and Quality Boy insisted, until the final furlong when the latter was able to break the leader, pulling away by 1 1/2 lengths at the wire and recording a valuable time of 1m47s42/100. Fruit Hunter (Global Hunter, 54) finished third, 2 1/2 lengths behind.
Bred by Al Adiyaat SA. and trained by Carlos A. Vescia, Quality Boy secured his eighth victory in 44 starts, bringing his earnings above 38,000,000 pesos. Of those wins, 4 were above the common level, with the distinction of having won as far away as La Punta, San Luis.
Quality Boy maintained his steady pace, although this category will now start to become very tough for him. However, in handicaps and intermediate stakes, the stage may be set to continue adding joys.
