The Hipódromo Argentino de Palermo is gearing up for a blockbuster Saturday with the 35th running of the Carreras de las Estrellas. Among the standout contests, the Gran Premio Estrellas Juvenile Fillies (G1-1600m, dirt, AR$40,000,000 to the winner) promises to be a true showcase of precocious talent, as the nation’s top two-year-old fillies vie for the title of best in their division. All eyes are on one undefeated star generating enormous expectations: Roshita, who looms as the clear favourite for coronation.

A daughter of Gouverneur Morris, Roshita arrives with an unblemished record and the aura of being the filly of the moment. Each of her performances has been a display of power and precocity, cementing her status as the division leader. Her perfect campaign over Palermo’s dirt – including victories in the Unzué (G2) and Jorge de Atucha (G1) – gives her a significant edge, having proven her total affinity for the local surface.

However, racing logic is never guaranteed, and the Juvenile Fillies will be no exception. Her main rival comes with equally impressive credentials: Charm. This formidable daughter of Strategos enters off a commanding victory in the Gran Premio de Potrancas (G1), one of the season’s key juvenile tests.

Yet Charm, homebred by Triple Alliance, faces a critical challenge: a surface switch. Her recent triumph came on the San Isidro turf, a track vastly different from Palermo’s demanding dirt, where she has yet to compete. Though she owns a win over San Isidro’s dirt – a surface unlike Palermo’s deeper base – this factor injects an element of uncertainty, making her presence one of the race’s most intriguing angles. Can Charm replicate her top-class form over an unknown surface?

The contest is far from a two-horse showdown. Two other fillies boast credentials to disrupt the expected script. La Isabelita (Leofric) is one of them, coming off a powerful victory that left an excellent impression, confirming her ability to match strides with the best of her crop. Her development has been notable, and her current form positions her as a serious threat to the favourites.

Meanwhile, Embrace It (Daddy Long Legs) also caught the eye. Though her résumé is less extensive, she turned heads on debut, capturing the Especial Juan Pedro Artigas in impressive fashion. That performance, filled with promise and flashes of raw talent, positions her as a wildcard with significant upside.

The Estrellas Juvenile Fillies is more than just a race; it is a window into the future of Argentine racing. The showdown between the undefeated and proven Roshita, the classy but untested-on-dirt Charm, and the promising La Isabelita and Embrace It guarantees high-octane action, while La Banda (Fortify) and Queen Elinor (Señor Candy)will look to spring an upset in what promises to be a spectacular contest.
