The Fortify colt soared over the Plateros mud, controlled the race coming from behind, and confirmed that he is today the undisputed ruler of the southern mile

LA PLATA.- The muddy track proved no obstacle for Sabiyano, who delivered a remarkable victory in the Clásico General José de San Martín (G3) and reaffirmed his dominance over the Plateros mile, handling an especially demanding race with impressive authority.

Despite the absence of Storm Sound (Hi Happy) – who had shown weak form on wet tracks – the pace was as intense as expected, set by Yak Sport (Glory Seattle) and El Patio (Il Campione). The leaders’ fast fractions played right into the hands of the winner, who came from off the pace to surge past in the stretch.

As had happened a few weeks ago in the Clásico 9 de Julio – Día de la Independencia (G3), María Eugenia Schneiderread the race perfectly aboard the Fortify colt, biding her time at the back while the front-runners set demanding splits of 24.46 and 47.71 seconds for the opening half.

Turning into the bend, El Patio began to tire, and Maximiliano Aserito attempted to launch Yak Sport, but the move never fully developed. Sabiyano angled wide, swung into the center of the track in front of the stands, and in just a couple of strides took command, quickly pulling clear from the rest.

He crossed the wire 8 lengths ahead of Yak Sport, who just held off Indy Pro (Indy Point) for second, while Monsieur Delon (Il Campione) finished fourth, 1½ lengths back. El Cobra Kai (Cosmic Trigger) ran a distant fifth, and the favorite El Patio closed disconnected, failing to repeat his 2024 triumph in this same event. Final time was 1:40.48, with the first 1200 meters run in 1:13.55.

“It was very similar to the previous race. I let him settle where he was comfortable, and he responded even better. He really loves the mud, as he showed us at San Isidro,” said Schneider, who notched her second group-level win with the Luis A. Sánchez trainee.

Bred by Haras Vacación and racing for Stud Chúcaros, Sabiyano showed his class, accomplishing the toughest task of all: staying at the top once he got there.
