The daughter of Il Mercato felt comfortable with the distance extension and defeated the favorite Unica Forma by 1 1/2 lengths

LA PLATA.— The two-year-olds prepared by Marcelo Sueldo continue to make headlines. On Saturday, over the San Isidro turf, the trainer claimed the Clásico Velocidad (G3) with El Rayo Pass (Distinctiv Passion), and the following day, he raised the stakes by securing a 1-2 finish in the Clásico Andrés S. Torres (G3-1400 m, normal sand), a continuation of the selective process for fillies at the racetrack in this city.

Taking advantage of her extensive and interesting experience, Salema defeated the favorite Unica Forma (Full Mast) by 1 1/2 lengths, allowing the prominent conditioner to regain leadership among the two-year-old fillies here, following the departure of Gota Clara Sos (Made You Look) in search of greater objectives at the main tracks, and the victory previously achieved by Candy Unica (Señor Candy)—now third—over Salema herself.

It was revenge, then, for the daughter of Il Mercato, with whom Jorge Peralta waited until the home straight to ask for her maximum effort, while Unica Forma and Amiguita Casual (Todo Un Amiguito) set the pace at the front.

The decisive move came in front of the stands, with the winner gradually dominating and drawing away from her stablemate to establish the aforementioned length-and-a-half margin, with Candy Unica charging without enough force to complete the trifecta a further 4 lengths back. The time of 1m24s39/100 was logical, although the track was fast.

Belonging to Stud Zeus and bred by Haras La Pasión, she had also placed in the Clásico Amilcar A. Mercader (L) and the Clásico Derli A. Gómez (G3), and now her genetics are beginning to lend a hand as the distances stretch out.

A Horse of the Year, Il Mercato shone by winning the Carlos Pellegrini (G1) and, on the bottom line, the filly is out of Sabbionera, by Manipulator (Unbridled) and the unforgettable Sa Torreta (Southern Halo), a mare of formidable speed who is the great-grandmother of two superstars like Subsanador (Fortify) and Satu (Catcher In the Rye).

Salema showed her best version and awaits the most important stages of the selective process with renewed hopes and sky-high confidence.
