The daughter of Ivan Denisovich prevailed by a neck over Alluring Angel in the Robert G. Dick Memorial Stakes; the Argentine-bred Ceniza Pampa finished fifth after a fair performance

DELAWARE, Maryland (Special to Turf Diario).– Following several attempts and always showing competitiveness in good-level events, the Chilean-bred Dona Clota finally achieved her first triumph in the United States this Saturday by capturing the Robert G. Dick Memorial Stakes (G3-2200m, turf) at Delaware Park, featuring a purse of 250,000 dollars.

Defending the colors of Resolute Racing and under the guidance of Irad Ortiz Jr., the daughter of Ivan Denisovichonce again demonstrated the remarkable stretch kick that led her to prominence in her native country, where she had captured 2 G1 events for Stud Doña Lili before heading north.

Trained by Saffie Joseph Jr., the 5-year-old mare traveled patiently in fifth position while Storm Miami (Blue Point) set the pace with fractions of 26s01/100, 51s89/100, 1m17s53/100, 1m41s40/100, and 2m05s37/100.

Without rushing at any moment, Ortiz began to edge her closer during the final turn and, once in the straight, launched his decisive attack. Dona Clota took control in the closing meters and showed sufficient determination to hold off by just a neck the strong late surge of Alluring Angel (Fastnet Rock), representing the Bill Mott stable. The winner completed the distance in 2m16s77/100 over a firm track and fully answered her status as the favorite, returning 5.20 dollars per winning ticket.

Third place initially went to Storm Miami, though she was subsequently disqualified to fourth position following a stewards' inquiry, which determined she had interfered with Bellezza (Siyouni) during the stretch run.

For her part, the Argentine-bred Ceniza Pampa (Hat Ninja) finished in fifth place, 3 3/4 lengths behind the winner. The blue-and-white representative delivered an acceptable performance within a demanding field, although prior expectations invited thoughts of a placing closer to the main honors.

For Dona Clota, the victory meant snapping a streak of 6 winless outings since her arrival here in January 2025, confirming that she keeps intact the quality that led her to rank among the best stayers in Chile.
