DEL MAR, California (Special for Turf Diario).- Argentine filly Violeta M made a positive first step in the United States this Saturday at Del Mar, returning from an eight-and-a-half-month layoff. Racing for the first time in the silks of Las Monjitas, the John F. Kennedy filly finished fourth in the seventh race, an $82,000 optional claiming allowance contested over one mile on turf.

Trained by Marcelo Polanco and ridden by Héctor Berríos, the Chilean duo, the bay showed good aptitude throughout the race, maintaining a mid-pack position before weaving through on the inside entering the stretch.

She made a brief bid but then settled into a steady rhythm, clearly needing the race. Ultimately, she crossed the wire 4 1/4 lengths behind the overwhelming favorite Vibez (Collected), finishing just half a length behind both the runner-up and third-place finisher, losing the latter spot in the final strides. The race was run in 1:34.81 over firm turf.

A multiple graded-stakes winner in Argentina and now six years old, Violeta M offers optimism for the future. With the layoff behind her, her late-closing style could translate into further success abroad, potentially adding international highlights to an already top-level career.
