With 3,000 Meters Ahead, 10 Hopes for the General Pueyrredón

It has been confirmed for the longest race on the national calendar, set for next Sunday at San Isidro
San Isidro Racecourse completed the layout of its next three programs on Tuesday, with full attention on Sunday’s highlight: the 2025 edition of the Clásico General Pueyrredón (G3), Argentina’s longest race. As previously announced, the race will retain its traditional 3000 meters on turf, rather than being cut to 2400 meters as initially proposed.
The adjustment requested by the Jockey Club Argentino was not approved by the International Federation, allowing fans to enjoy a unique and historic contest, evoking memories of a bygone era of Argentine racing.
Originally, 12 were entered for the marathon, but withdrawals by Contrast (Safety Check) and Demostrame(Endorsement) reduced the field to 10, led by G1 winner Epityrum (Portal del Alto).
Also lining up are Equal Mostaza (Equal Stripes), El Darwin (Il Campione), Es Asombroso (Es Después), Halteres(Hat Ninja), Ninguneando (Bodemeister), Q Poderoso (Forty One), Soñador Spring (Greenspring), Southern Secret(Southern Cat), and The Gladiator’s Hat (Hat Ninja), all aiming to challenge Nicolás Martín Ferro’s top contender.
The northern track opens its week on Friday with the Handicap Gran Copa Rotary, a 1300-meter dirt sprint for horses aged five and older. The field of 10 includes: Estero de Ibera (Il Campione, 61 ½ kg), Burgess Shale (Safety Check, 61), El Despertar (Il Campione, 57), Señor Moon (E Dubai, 54), Suspiro Encantador (In the Dark, 53 ½), King of Wessex(Cosmic Trigger, 54 ½), Cosa e Mandinga (Qué Vida Buena, 55), Giant Rimout (Remote, 56 ½), Decanas Telu(Montelu, 50 ½), and Flying to the Sky (Señor Candy, 56).
On Wednesday, August 20, attention will turn to the Handicap Cipayo (1600 m, dirt) for mares aged five and older, with nine entered. Pecadora Joy (Fortify) carries top weight of 59 kg and will face: Portal Maya (Portal del Alto, 53 ½), Lumínica Es (True Cause, 52), Señora Maga (Señor Candy, 53 ½), Playa Chopera (Treasure Beach, 52 ½), Gritona Re(Safety Check, 52 ½), Doble Amarilla (Suggestive Boy, 51 ½), Lost Beach (Treasure Beach, 55 ½), and Iana Maro(Expressive Halo, 50).
