Gimme a Nother Returned After Nine Months and Shone by the Hand of Jorge Ruiz

The multiple G1 winner in South Africa reappeared with a solid victory in the Eatontown Stakes; the Argentine jockey continues to enjoy a great moment in the United States
OCEANPORT, New Jersey (Special to Turf Diario).– Not even a nine-month layoff could stop Gimme a Nother, who returned to the races this Saturday with a resounding victory in the Eatontown Stakes (G3), contested over 1700 meters on the Monmouth Park turf for a 150,000-dollar purse.
The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight, trained by H. Graham Motion, counted on an impeccable ride from Argentine jockey Jorge Ruiz Díaz, who is going through another year of excellent results in the United States and is currently fighting for the top spots in the standings at Laurel Park.
Representing the colors of Newstead Stables, the 6-year-old South American-bred mare settled close to the pace while the outsider Creative Stuff (Creative Cause) set the tempo with an initial opening fraction of 50s42/100 for the half-mile.
Always traveling comfortably, Ruiz Díaz awaited the right moment to ask for the decisive effort. Gimme a Nothertook control after covering the first 1200 meters in 1m14s83/100 and from there began to pull away with authority, crossing the wire with a 3 1/2-length advantage over the favorite Whiskey Decision (Into Mischief), while Grayosh(Yoshida) completed the frame.
The winner stopped the clock in 1m42s90/100 for the 1700 meters over a firm track and returned 4.40 dollars per winning ticket.
"She is a very professional mare. She made the job very easy for me," Ruiz Díaz commented after the race.
Bred by Wilgerbosdrift and Mauritzfontein, Gimme a Nother arrived in the United States in March 2025 following an exceptional campaign in her native country, where she remained undefeated in seven starts and achieved multiple G1 victories.
Saturday's success represented her second graded stakes triumph since she began competing in the north and confirmed the progress she had shown during her most recent performances. "Her start in the United States was a bit slow, but lately she hasn't done anything wrong," summarized Ian Wilson, Motion's assistant.
In addition to the important financial reward, both Gimme a Nother and Whiskey Decision earned the benefit of receiving free entry and starting fees for the Matchmaker Stakes (G3T), scheduled for next July 18.
Meanwhile, for Ruiz Díaz, the victory signified another outstanding chapter within a season in which he continues to consolidate his position as one of the most effective riders on the Mid-Atlantic circuit, staying in the hunt for the Laurel Park title and adding prominent performances at the main venues of the East Coast.
