SOUTH OZONE PARK, New York (Special for Turf Diario).- The Beldame Stakes (G2, 9 furlongs, dirt, $250,000) headlines Friday’s card at Belmont at the Big A, featuring a small but intriguing field of 3-year-old and older fillies. The race is part of the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Dozen, offering up to $30,000 in entry fee credits toward the Distaff (G1) at Del Mar on November 1.

The main storyline centers on a possible revenge mission for Majestic Oops (Majestic Harbor), who faces the two-time G1 winner Randomized (Nyquist) again after finishing second to her in Monmouth Park’s Molly Pitcher (G3). On that occasion, Dan Ward’s filly showed courage and progression, earning a 96 Beyer—the best of her career—before following up with a strong third in Saratoga’s Ballerina (G1). With Kendrick Carmouche aboard and the four post, she will look to capitalize on any doubts from her top rival.

Indeed, Randomized, representing Klaravich Stables, is not at her peak form. After shining in 2023 with victories in the Beldame (G2) and Alabama (G1), Chad Brown’s star has delivered modest efforts in the Ogden Phipps (G1) and Personal Ensign (G1), fading early in both races. Still, with $1.7 million in earnings and six top-level wins, she remains the standard-bearer in the division.

Another contender to watch is Gun Song (Gun Runner), last year’s Black-Eyed Susan (G2) winner and runner-up in the Cotillion (G1) to eventual champion Thorpedo Anna (Fast Anna). Mark Hennig’s filly, ridden by John Velázquez, will look to use pace and distance to regain prominence.

Rounding out the field are the 3-year-old Margie’s Intention (Honor A.P.), third in the Alabama (G1), and Just Music(Audible), who will attempt to spring a surprise from the rail.

With its rich history, the Beldame once again serves as a springboard to the Breeders’ Cup. The key question: can Randomized rediscover her best form, or will it be Majestic Oops’ turn to take the next big step?
